
GENERAL
Each member or firefighter will be issued the items listed below. The majority of these items will remain property of the department but a few will be given permanently (see individual items below) to each member when they join the department.
MEMBERSHIP ISSUED EQUIPMENT
1. Personal Pager & instruction sheet - $70.00
These pagers, operated by Advantage
Communications in Kerrville are our basic emergency notification device and
should be carried by members at all times. Each member is responsible to keep
fresh AAA alkaline batteries in the pager to ensure proper operation.
Should you have trouble with the unit, return it to the Fire Chief or acting
chief and they will give you an exchange unit. Do not call or take it to
Advantage Communication.
2. TLVFD Cap - $10.00
A TLVFD cap is given permanently to each member
to identify them as members of the department during meetings, training and
external functions.
Additional or replacement caps are available from the department for $10.00
each.
3. TLVFD T-Shirt - $10.00
A TLVFD T- Shirt is given permanently to each
member to identify them as members of the department during meetings, training
and external functions.
Additional or replacement T-Shirts are available from the department for $10.00
each.
FIRE FIGHTER WILD LAND FIRE EQUIPMENT
1. Yellow Nomex Jump Suit - $150.00
These suits have built-in flame and static
resistance and are to be worn on all emergency calls, unless told to do
otherwise by one of the Officers.
You can wash these suits in cold or warm water but do not use chlorine bleach
type of detergent. Dry at a low heat and then hang out to complete drying.
2. Hard Hat with Shield or Goggles and protective Hood - $60.00
A hard hat is to be worn on all emergency calls unless told to do otherwise by an Officer. In some cases, the TLVFD Cap is suitable to be worn, such as for traffic control or on some training exercises. Should one want to do so, you can get the goggles with your prescription (at your cost).
3. Fire Resistance Gloves $17.00
Fire resistance heavy-duty gloves for working in
the fire zone. Gloves are required on all scenes. However, should you want to
use something lighter for operating one of the Truck systems or for training,
you may purchase and use a lighter leather glove of your choice.
These fire resistant gloves can be machine-washed in warm water but do not use a
chlorine bleach type detergent. Once washed, hang them up to dry.
4. High Top Boots $200.00
Black Diamond high top leather boots with steel
toes and steel sole support are issued to each firefighter and are required to
be worn on non structural dispatches.
Each member initially buys these boots for $100.00 and will permanently own
them. If desired, the department will reimburse individuals $50.00 after the
first year and the final $50.00 after the second year of service. A Zipper may
be purchased which eliminates a lot of lacing time.
It is suggested your boots be cleaned periodically and coated with Mink Oil to
keep the leather soft and waterproof. You may also want to wear a pair of boot
socks.
FIREFIGHTER STRUCTURAL FIRE EQUIPMENT
FEMSA Turnout Gear $1,500.00
Required to be taken on dispatches where a
structure or vehicle might be involved.
a. Hard Hat with shield

c. Fire Resistance Jacket
d. Fire Resistance Pants with suspenders
e. Fire Resistance Gloves
f. Fire Resistance Rubber Boots with steel protective toes and soles.
g. Canvas bag to transport all of the above.
The Jacket, Pants and Gloves can be machine-washed in warm water with a mild
detergent but do not use a chlorine bleach in your detergent. You can lightly
dry them in a dryer and than hang then out to dry.
